Over the past year or so, I’ve been following the life and story of a spunky 13-year-old Texan named Laurren Smith who has been fighting a rare form of cancer for many months. Laurren and her parents post updates on her Caring Bridge blog regularly, so it’s easy to find out about specific prayer requests and other needs the family has.
There is also a
Facebook group you can join to receive updates on Laurren and a website for the
Laurren Smith Foundation, which was established recently to help provide financial support for Laurren’s family.
Throughout her fight,
Laurren’s parents, family and friends have shared about how amazing
Laurren’s attitude has been through multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and countless “pokes.” She is always smiling, rarely complains – her positive attitude is contagious.
I’ve realized lately that
Laurren will come to my mind at times when I know my attitude is out of line. Just one thought of how she smiles while enduring things no teenager should have to, reminds me that my complaints are shallow and that my blessings are many. Also, her family’s faith and dedication to prayer are amazing and inspiring.
Laurren is now receiving alternative cancer treatment and still needs prayer and financial support. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read about Laurren and to visit one of her websites. She is on my heart on a daily basis – and I have a feeling she’ll be on yours, too.
